The gluten allergen statement has been added to all the grains/pulses/lentils packaging after a series of discussions with suppliers. During harvesting and storage, they may share harvesting land or silos with barley, which are unable to be completely cleaned and there may be a chance that there is some cross contact.
We cannot quantify the level of cross contact and hence make the claim on the packaging as we cannot guarantee it to be gluten free. We run a full allergen control program here at Ward McKenzie and try to ensure that the level of cross contact doesn’t increase from once the product gets to us to when its packed.
